ALCOHOL AWARENESS poster contest
Houston County Courier - March 2009
AUSTIN – On the heels of its successful 2008 “Don’t Serve Alcohol To Teens” campaign, the Texas Hospitality Association (THA) is sponsoring two statewide poster design and slogan conteststo fight underage drinking and to promote alcohol responsibility
The first contest is for Texas high school seniors and the second is for college and university students 21 years and older.
THA will award two $5,000 scholarships to the two students who design the best poster and slogan.
The theme for the high school students is “Underage drinking (under 21) in Texas is against the law.” For the college, university and technical students the theme will be: “A beer (12 oz), mixed drink (1.5 oz liquor) and glass of wine (5 oz) each contain the same amount of alcohol.”
“THA is pleased to sponsor this poster contest and scholarships, because only through elevating the facts about alcohol can we educate the public, and especially teenagers, about alcohol awareness,” said Ricky Knox, president of THA.
The two winning posters will be distributed statewide to establishments selling or serving alcohol.
The contest is open to Texas high school seniors and registered college and university students over 21 years of age. Artwork must be an original design and may be computer or electronically generated, hand drawn or photographed.
Participating students will have until May 8 to design and submit their poster and slogan to THA. Ten finalists will be selected in each category.
The two winners will be determined by a vote of each Texas Legislative office and a presentation ceremony is planned during the closing days of this legislative session.
