Emergency work on crossing requires road closure
Houston County Courier -  March 2009

Motorists traveling on FM 227 Chestnut Street in Grapeland will have to use an alternate route Monday - Tuesday, March 2 - 3.
Union Pacific Railroad will close the railroad crossing to make emergency repairs.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), UP has already staged its equipment at the location and work is set to begin at 9 a.m. Monday.
The crossing will be shutdown and traffic redirected along city streets.
The work will require a complete removal of the existing crossing and base in order to replace two 80’ rail sections.
The work is expected to be completed and the crossing re-opened late Tuesday afternoon.
TxDOT urges motorists to pay close attention to detour signs and other traffic control devices set up at the work zone. Remember, traffic fines double if workers are present.
