According to Crockett Police Department Sergeant Doug King there has recently been a rash of automobile burglaries occurring in the city of Crockett.
Thieves are committing crimes of opportunity and are apparently walking down a street trying doors on cars to see if the vehicles are locked.
When the thieves approach an unlocked door, they rummage through the vehicle looking for valuable items.
Sergeant King is warning citizens to, “Please do not leave valuables in your vehicle without locking it and do not leave the items in plain sight.”
The street in front of your house and even your driveway are not secure locations.
A thief can be in and out of your unlocked vehicle in less than one minute.
“Your attention and assistance in this matter will help the Crockett Police Department and will help keep your possessions from falling into the hands of thieves,” said Sgt. King.
