LISD students adopt grandparents

CROCKETT – Latexo Ele-mentary fifth grade students adopted grandparents at a local nursing home in Crockett. The students interviewed the prospective new grandparents with a host of questions put together by Linda Easterly and Tracy Catoe. The interviews were quite extensive as the students learned about the resident’s lives and the many things that were important to them. “I was impressed with how all the students conducted themselves,” said the Administrator Margaret Rothrock. Many of the students had never been inside a nursing home and this was a new experience and setting for them. The residents were more than happy to answer the multitude of questions they were asked by the students. Did they ever have a pet, what was their name, what was your favorite thing to do as a child and more. The nursing home staff was surprised at some of our resi-dents who had never had this much to say to us. After all the interviews were finished, the students were treated to lunch and an ice cream sundae bar. The center had tables set up for the students, but they asked, “Can I eat lunch with my new grandparent?” What a great success the day was. I could not decide who had more fun, the residents or the students. I just know it was a blessed event where everyone was a winner. The center and the residents are looking forward to having the student’s back for a visit soon. |
