Col. Stanley E. Clark announces retirement
Houston County Courier - May 2009
AUSTIN - Col. Stanley E. Clark, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, announced on Tuesday, May 5 that he will be retiring from the agency effective May 31.
Allan Polunsky, chairman of the Texas Public Safety Commission, has accepted Col. Clark's resignation as director of the agency as of 5 p.m. Monday.
Col. Clark has been director of the agency since September 2008, when he was named interim director.
He has been with the Department of Public Safety for 36 years, moving his way up from Highway Patrol trooper to regional commander to director of the agency.
"This is an elite law enforcement agency. We expect all our employees to demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism. The director must set the example for all employees in their workplace communications," said Allan B. Polunsky, chairman of the Texas Public Safety Commission.
"Col. Clark has acknowledged his failure to adhere to those high standards and has chosen to retire at the end of this month. We are disappointed by this matter, and we are committed to moving on in our search for a director."
The Public Safety Commission is currently conducting a nationwide executive search to find a permanent director. The commission will meet later this week to appoint an interim director.
