Several local fire departments, law enforcement agencies a medical helicopter and first responders gathered at the Crockett Civic Center on Wednesday, May 13 to participate in the Third Annual EMS Day.
Emergency personnel demonstrated for several classes of Houston County students how equipment is used in emergency response situations.
The interactive demonstrations were designed to prepare the students in the event they were ever the subject of an emergency call.
The exercises taught students not be afraid when they see a firefighter dressed in his bunker gear; students learned that the firefighter is there to save their life.
As part of the event, the students took a tour of ETMC Air 1 the medical helicopter on display for the event as well as the ambulances that were on display.
Firefighters also taught the children how they cut the glass out of the vehicle to extract someone in the event of an entrapment and showed them the many tools that are part of a fire truck.
Departments participating included Grapeland Volunteer Fire Department, Grapeland EMS, ETMC EMS, ETMC Air 1, Texas Department of Public Safety and Crockett Fire Department.
Sparky the firedog even stopped by to see the attendees.
