Wayne Williams was one of 789 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep dealers across the country who received a pink slip on Thursday, May 14.
According to Williams, the letter he received said the auto maker was retracting his dealer franchise license for Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep.
“New cars is just one phase of this business,” Williams said in a telephone interview on Friday.
He added that the company will not close because of the actions by Chrysler,
“We will still have used cars, service, finance, parts and a towing service, they can’t take that away from us,” Williams said.
Williams said Chrysler would not take back the 50-55 new vehicles he had in stock.
According to news reports, the dealers who were notified by Chrysler on Thursday represented about 25 percent of the company’s 3,200 dealers.
Williams was reportedly selling about 90 new vehicles per month and the dealers who received the pink slips were all basically selling less than 100 per month.
Williams was one of seven dealers in East Texas who received the letter. Dealers affected also included Canton Motors in Canton, Dewey Moore Ford Chrysler in Hughes Springs, Jack of Diamond L-M in Longview, Mike Pile Motors in Tyler, San Augustine Motors in San Augustine, and Snow Motors in Palestine.
Williams said, “When one door closes, another one opens and we are going to look for that open door.”
