Longtime resident, bank president retires

Longtime resident and president of Prosperity Bank in Crockett, James Waldrop will retire on the last day of this month.
Waldrop has worked in the banking industry in Houston County for more than three decades working with East Texas Production Credit Association 18 years and Crockett State Bank 16 years before joining the former Grapeland State Bank.
He worked for Grapeland State Bank five years before it became Prosperity Bank three years ago.
When asked what he would do when he retired, Waldrop said, “We have a small farm and I will do honey do jobs and church activities.”
Waldrop is a deacon at the First Baptist Church Crockett and he and his wife Joyce have been married since 1961.
The couple has two children, a son Greg Waldrop of The Woodlands and a daughter Luanne Brownd of Canyon. They also have five grandchildren.
Waldrop is credited with organizing the popular Lions Club Rodeo in 1961.
He has served a variety of community service organizations over the past four decades including the Porth Ag Arena, Houston County Fair board of directors, the Crockett Area Chamber of Commerce, 4-H, Houston Live Stock Show Go Texas Committee, and Davy Crockett Soil and Water Conservation District board of directors.
