Of the 23 counties that report to the Houston/Galveston National Weather Service, Houston County is the only one that does it with 14 local weather reports from the county.
These reporters relay facts about the weather back to the Houston County Office Emergency Management Coordinator David Lamb Sr.
Weather facts reported includes data such as wind speed and direction, indoor and outdoor temperatures, wind chill, dew point, ultraviolet index, total rain fall, solar radar, barometer and humidity.
Reporters include Shasta Stanger, west of Grapeland; James Skinner, Arbor; Danny Lamb, Northeast of Grapeland; Gene Colley, Golden Acres; James and Susan Rowden, West of Grapeland; Ronnie Waller, West of the country club; Larry Melson, Latexo; Carl Chence, West of Crockett; Mardell White, Spring Mar; TDCJ Eastham Unit; Kenny Hayes, 21 East Weches; United States Forest Service, Ratcliff; Roger Dickey, Grapeland; and the EOC in the Davy Crockett Memorial Park.
Lamb enters all the collected data into the National Weather Service website that relays severe weather information back to the county.
The weather reporting equipment consists of several very sophisticated computers and databases.
Lamb said the county is well equipped for collecting weather data.
