CROCKETT – In the early morning hours of Mother’s Day, a 2004 Ford pickup, dri-ven by Jorge Hernandez, 23, of Pasadena, crashed through the front of the Dean’s Insur-ance building located in the 300 block of South Fifth Street. According to Crockett Police Department reports, the pickup was westbound on Bowie Avenue at about 2 a.m. on Sunday, May 9 and when the driver attempted to prepare to slow down to make a right turn onto South Fifth Street the brakes reportedly failed. After turning onto South Fifth Street the driver report-edly lost control of the vehicle and it crashed first into a plan-ter and then the front of the building. Hernandez was cited for failure to stop and give infor-mation when striking a fixed object. Reports indicated at the time of the crash there were four passengers in the vehicle; a 20-year-old female and two 14-year-old and one 15-year-old male juveniles. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. CPD Sgt. Doug King is the investigating officer on the incident.
