Tournament hailed a success

CROCKETT - Steve Nicho-las organized another success-ful Bass tournament held on Saturday, April 1 at Spring Creek Country Club for the Houston and Trinity County Children’s Advocacy Center–Kalin’s Center this year. The funds received through this event will go toward pro-viding education and aware-ness programs on child abuse for Houston and Trinity Coun-ties. Nicholas, family and friends was moved by the astounding numbers of reported cases of abuse in the county and the request for the additional much needed funds for the center. “We know times are tough! Without the community’s sup-port for the Kalin’s Center we know the numbers would only expand”, said Debbie McCall, executive director of Kalin’s Center. The Bass tournament to ben-efit the Kalin’s Center was a fun experience and a huge success. All the fishermen said, “Let’s do it again next year”! Fourteen teams started out early on Saturday morning and were awarded good weather and a delicious barbecue lunch at the end of the day. The tournament paid out Four Places: First Place (15.14 lb) David and Bobby Driskell, Second Place (15.12 1/2 lb) Johnny Smoldas and Mike Rich, Third Place (12.12 lb) Darrell Low and Todd Merka, and Fourth Place (12.6 lb) Steve Nicholas and Lee Bar-rett. Kalin’s Center staff and board of thanked all that spon-sored and participated with the benefit Bass tournament.
