Houston County Courier - November 2008
By Sharron Randall
Latexo High School junior high and senior high school students were given a choice of four out of a possible 30 career opportunities to review and consider on Wednesday, Nov. 12, on the school's campus.
Latexo Independent School District Counselor John Reynolds began working on Career Day in September and had called or contacted dozens of individuals practicing many different professions.
Beginning at 9 a.m., each presenter had 25 minutes to describe, detail, and promote his/her particular profession before another session began. An announcement from Principal, Pam Ainsworth, notified students, staff member and presenters that a time period had ended.
From accounting to law enforcement and from engineers to veterinarians, the roster of presenters spanned almost every conceivable occupation, business, or vocation that a Latexo student might be interested in after graduation.
After a short introductory period, which included a breakfast of juice and assorted pastries, LISD Superintendent Dr. Roy Tucker, Reynolds and his wife Margaret, Ms. Ainsworth and Assistant Superintendent Cynthia Neel greeted and welcomed guests. Student assistants Ashley Anderson, Brian Simpson, and Mario Pounce then escorted the presenters to the proper location before the 9 a.m. bell
After the four sessions, which lasted until a little after 11 a.m., presenters enjoyed a luncheon of deli sandwiches with all the trimmings, chips, cookies, and drink.
