Recount Requested in Texas HD 11
Houston County Courier - November 2008

Brian K. Walker, the Republican candidate for State Representative, announced late on Friday, Nov. 14 that he will file an election recount petition with the Texas Secretary of State.
"I am honored by the extraordinary support I have received and appreciate the message for conservative change that East Texas voters sent on election day. Since that time, I have received hundreds of calls encouraging me to ask for a recount in order to make sure that every vote is counted" Walker said.
According to Walker's political consultant Cory Kennedy with Ryan, Erwin and Associates of Austin, the petition for a recount in all four counties, Houston, Rusk, Panola and Cherokee, was filed with the Texas Secretary of state on Wednesday within the 48-hour time frame.
Kennedy said there was a difference of 104 votes between Walker and the Democratic incumbent Chuck Hopson in the election.
According to Houston County Clerk Bridget Lamb, her office will be notified by the secretary of state regarding the timeframe for the recount.
"There are credible reports that ballots cast by registered voters were improperly rejected and not counted on election day so we are asking for a recount to make sure that all of the voices of East Texas voters are heard.
"My opponent and I disagree on many issues, but I am sure we can agree that this process must be transparent and thorough until every vote is counted," Walker said.
Walker continued "and true to our message of conservative and limited government, taxpayers can rest assured that our campaign will cover the costs associated with the recount."
