Voter list to be purged
Houston County Courier - November 2008
The Houston County Tax Assessor-Collector Danette Millican, is preparing to do a state mandated voter registration purge of voters whose names appear as being in suspense on the voter roll.
A voter is placed in suspense when their card is returned to the county during the semi-annual mass mail-out.
Generally the cards are returned because voters have not provided the tax office with a current mailing addresses.
The voters are still eligible to vote during the two-year period that their names appear in suspense.
However, after the two-year time frame expires, the voter registrations are cancelled by the Texas Secretary of State.
Mrs. Millican said there are over 2,000 Houston County voters in suspense.
A little more than 200 voted in the Nov. 4 General Election, but her office received only 38 address change cards from the precincts on election day.
She urges everyone who did not receive a voter registration card in December 2007, to come by her office before Dec. 1 and complete a change of address card, or they will run the risk of their voter registration being cancelled.
She said voters should also update their information with the tax office to reflect their 911address.
