In an announcement on Monday, Nov. 9, Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Kathy Bush said she planned to retire at the end of her term on Dec. 31, 2010 and would not seek re-election.
Mrs. Bush has been in office since Jan. 1, 2003 and said she looked forward to a lot of RV travel, visiting her grandchildren and working at the church.
“My two terms as your justice of the peace has been an exciting and gratifying experience. I will be forever grateful to each of you for allowing me to serve Houston County in this capacity,” she said.
She concluded her statement by saying, “Your support and prayers have consistently lifted me up during difficult times and I know you will do the same for the next person elected to this office.”
Precinct 2 serves the northern end of the county and the office consists of a four-year term.
Candidates interested in filing for the position will be required to do so in December.
Those who file would be on the ballot for the March 2010 Primary Election.
Once the votes are tallied from that race, the two remaining candidates will face each other in the November 2010 General Election.
