Plans for the construction of a hotel on property located on Loop 304 in front of the Crockett Civic Center have resurfaced in recent days.
According to Crockett Economic and Industrial Development Corporation Executive Director Tim Culp, the property consisting of 1.5 acres was purchased by Shivoham Hospitality, Inc. of College Station.
Culp said the firm plans to construct a 55-room hotel under the franchise name of Best Western.
He said a restaurant was not in the immediate plans for construction, which is slated to begin in March 2010 and be completed in February 2011.
Culp said the city of Crockett and Houston County would be approached to consider giving the company tax abatements as an incentive to construct the facility.
According to Culp, the five-year sliding scale abatement of taxes from the city would amount to $37,115 and the county’s total would be $32,318.
Culp said that CEIDC did not assist the firm financially but they did assist them in facilitating the requests to the city and county for the tax abatements.
The county has consideration of the tax abatement request on their Monday, Nov. 16 agenda. The city is also set to consider the measure at their meeting on Monday, Nov. 16.
