Houston County Courier - November 2009

GRAPELAND – One man was airlifted to ETMC Tyler by ETMC Air One and a woman was transported to ETMC Crockett by Grapeland EMS following a head-on collision on FM 1272 on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 24.
According to witnesses, about 4 p.m. that afternoon an older model pickup, driven by 50-year-old Tommy Coy Lively, was leaving Grapeland on Rockhill road and about one-mile north of the football field collided head-on with a late model sedan driven by a 17-year-old Grapeland woman.
Witnesses who were on the scene said the woman apparently failed to negotiate the curve coming into Grapeland and entered the lane of the oncoming Lively.
The impact of the collision embedded the hood of the woman’s vehicle into the engine of Lively’s pickup.
Grapeland Volunteer Fire Department reportedly used the jaws-of-life to free the woman from her vehicle.
The Courier was unable to reach Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Kevin January for additional information regarding the crash.
Grapeland Police Department and Houston County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the call.
