Swearing-in scheduled; HCJC dates announced

The Houston County Com-missioners Court Wednesday, Nov. 10 canvassed the Nov. 2 general election results. After certifying the results, the court agreed the newly elected and re-elected officials in Houston County will be sworn into office at 11 a.m. on Jan. 1. The swearing-in ceremony will be at the Houston County Courthouse. Several dates pertaining to the opening of the Houston County Justice Center were also announced. On Nov. 15-16, furniture will be installed. The architects and engineers punch list is scheduled for Nov. 15-17, with an inspection by the State Jail Commission to occur on Nov. 17. On Nov. 23 at 9 a.m., the Masonic Lodge Cornerstone Ceremony will be held. Dispatch and 911 equipment will be expected Nov. 29, and there will be tours for school groups on Dec. 3. The dedication and open house is scheduled for Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Finally, the projected date to move inmates is Dec. 6. In other action, the commissioners approved a Resolution and Grant Application of the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Feral Hog Abatement Technologies Program. Houston County Judge Lonnie Hunt said 185 hogs were harvested with participa-tion of 4-H clubs in October. At this time, Hunt said, more than 60,000 acres in Houston County are committed to allow trapping. The first place winner of the grant will receive $25,000, Hunt said, for a Houston County Hog Abatement program. |
