Monday deadline for Empty Stocking project
Houston County Courier

Applications for the 2010 Empty Stocking project are now available. The deadline for returning the completed applications is Monday, Nov. 15. The Empty Stocking program’s goal in 2010 is to assist minimal income families in Houston County in their efforts to provide a Christmas present for their children ages newborn to 10 years that would not otherwise be receiving a Christmas present. Applications this year may be picked up and returned to Boot Heel Printing and Office Products (544-7661), Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. or SHARE (544-5600) M-W-F from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. *Please keep requests for gifts under $35 and fill out one stocking per child. *Photo I.D. is required of parent. *Applications will not be accepted without proof of income and proof of residency in Houston County (please bring copies with application). *Deadline for completed application is 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15. *Only local telephone numbers will be called to pick up gift(s) by Monday, Dec. 20. The children’s stocking with their wish list will be on the Christmas tree at Boot Heel Printing and Office Supply and available for adoption by Monday, Nov. 15 (or as soon as they are returned and verified). Gifts for adopted children need to be wrapped and returned to any of the drop off locations by Friday, Dec. 17. It is very important to have all the gifts in by this date so there will be time to process the paper work, notify the families and get all the gifts out on time. The workshop does not have regular hours in November. Volunteers are needed to work in the Empty Stocking Workshop “all hours and every week day” Dec. 7 through Dec. 20 when the workshop closes for the 2010 season. Each year volunteers from the community enable this local charity to help families in need at Christmas. If you would like to volunteer, have any questions or need to drop off your gifts at the workshop before December call Theresa at 546-1518, SHARE at 544-5600, Boot Heel at 544-7661 or the work-shop at 545-2665. Drop off locations at this time (other locations will be added later) include First United Methodist Church, Crockett (544-2044), 701 E. Goliad; Boot Heel Printing and Office Supply (544-7661), 601 E. Goliad; Kalin’s Center (545-9455), 500 E. Houston Ave. The 2010 Empty Stocking Workshop is located behind the SHARE building in Crockett (545-2665). Turn on Clark St. between Seventh and Eighth Streets, turn in the gravel drive way by the gym and look for the candy canes on the windows.
