From a field of 48 applicants, the Crockett City Council narrowed its selection down to three final candidates of the position of police chief vacated by former Chief Jimmy Fisher’s retirement in August. In an executive session following the council’s regular meeting, the council interviewed each of the three finalists. The finalists are Interim Chief/Sgt. Mike McKay, Lufkin Police Department Detective David “Buddy” Cross and Parole Officer Christina McKnight of Lovelady. In open session after the interviews, Mayor Wayne Mask said the council hopes to announce by the end of this week which candidate will be the new chief of police. The mayor explained each council member has had a role in the screening and selection process. Councilman Chris Gunnels was absent Monday due to illness. |
