Latexo High School student Joshua Gibson, 16, is reported to be in critical but stable condition at ETMCTyler after being struck by a vehicle after school Monday, Dec. 27. Gibson, the son of Kristi and Billy Gibson of Latexo, was struck by a 2007 Nissan Xterra SUV on North US 287 in Latexo Monday afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m. Apparently Gibson had cut through a yard in the 3700 block of North US 287 and was attempting to cross the highway about one-tenth of a mile south of CR 2663, on his way to a friend’s house on the other side of the highway when the accident occurred, investigating DPS Trooper Bryan Becton reported. Bruce Allen Zasowski, 60, of Yantis was traveling north on US 287 when his vehicle struck Gibson, according to Becton. Gibson was airlifted to ETMC-Tyler where he is being treated for multiple serious injuries, including severe head trauma, a punctured lung and broken jaw. He remains in ICU at presstime. Becton reported Zasowski’s wife, Denise, 60, was a passenger in the SUV. Both of the Zasowskis sustained minor injuries due to shattered windshield glass, Becton stated. They were on their way home to Yantis after visiting their son in Houston, according to Becton. No citations were issued, Becton said.
