A Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 7 head-on collision that occurred about one-mile north of Grapeland at the Anderson County line claimed the life of a 33-year-old Elkhart man.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety reports, a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, driven by James Allen Clark was southbound on US 287 when it traveled into the northbound lane of traffic and collided with a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, driven by Alicia Branson, 37, of Palestine.
Ms. Branson was airlifted to ETMC Tyler by PHI Med 11 for treatment of the injuries she sustained in the crash. Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reports indicate that the impact of the collision caused both vehicles to spin counterclockwise with Clark's vehicle coming to rest facing northeast in the northbound lane and Ms. Branson's vehicle facing northeast in the southbound lane.
In addition to DPS troopers from Anderson and Houston counties, Houston County Sheriff's Office, Anderson County Sheriff's Office, PHI Med 11, Grapeland EMS, Grapeland Volunteer Fire Department, Grapeland Police Department and Harrington Funeral Home responded to the scene.
