CISD School Board Quibbles About Consent Items
Houston County Courier - October 2008

No action was taken, for over two hours in a meeting of the Crockett Independent School District School Board on Monday, Oct. 13, except for the approval of minutes from the previous meeting.  Quibbling over the check register and bills and budget comparisons took precedence over other matters.
After the pledges were led by Darsy and Dalton Culp, Kara Fiolek and ShaBessTreana Johnson and with the help of Crockett Elementary School Principal Ann Fiolek and teachers Gary and Debbie Elrod, the students demonstrated interactive computer software and equipment.
Business Manager John Walker was kept busy fielding questions and making explanations about certain expenditures, checks, bills, reimbursements, disbursements, consulting fees, and all purchases in general.
Even with the assistance of Superintendent Dr. Bill Like, Assistant Superintendent David Baxter, and Special Education Director Jeannie Julian, the trustees' inquiries took an inordinate amount of time.
Other reports, such as Chartwells Food Service, football gate receipts, surplus property, and the school safety audit were heard by the board.
A "Superior" rating was received from the Texas Education Agency for the FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas).
Upon return to open session, no action was taken on the Level III Grievance filed by Cleveland Thomas or regarding administrative salaries, including the high school principal's salary.
Darryl Smith was hired as assistant principal of Crockett High School to replace Mark Giles who was promoted to principal and Beverly Bains was hired as an elementary classroom teacher.
The meeting began at 5:30 p.m. and was adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
