From a Thankful Resident
Houston County Courier - October 2008
Last week I had a flat on my way to work.
Three different vehicles stopped to offer help before my husband was able to get there. I just can't quit thinking about that.
I left Texas when I joined the Army in the early 1990s and then later moved to Louisiana, where I stayed for 10 years.
A little over two years ago I moved back to Texas. It is so nice to be back home again!
Every time I turn around I am reminded of another reason why I love Texas so much, especially living here, in a small town. In Louisiana, if I had a flat, strangers didn't often stop to offer help.
If they did, I worried that they might be a criminal of some sort; there was a serial killer on the loose for a long time down there, and the crime rate was astounding.
Here, I had a flat and three vehicles stopped to offer help within minutes of each other. The crime rate here is such that there isn't a huge risk of those helpful people turning out to be serial killers in disguise. Everyone knows everyone and looks out for each other.
I really missed the friendly, helpful nature of Texans while I was away.
I want to say thank you to the helpful people who stopped to offer me help last week! It is still greatly appreciated.
