Writer comments about parades
Houston County Courier - October 2008

I love a parade. The excessive noise is too much.
However, the loud and continuous blowing of horns and sirens is very annoying.
We were in Grapeland on Saturday, Oct. 12, one mother was telling us her three-year-old was terrified of the noise.
That is not the only child or adult that finds them offensive.
Don't take this wrong because the Peanut Festival Parade is always top notch.
I am not suggesting that the horn blowing and sirens be stopped all together, but please use good judgment. It does not need to be continuous through the parade route. I know I am not the only person who has this concern.
I hope someone cares enough about the public support of these functions to step up and take control of the noise level. My interest and concern is for all parades; Crockett Christmas parade, Peanut Festival, Kennard Christmas, Fourth of July and others.
