Crockett High School Holds Open House
Houston County Courier - October 2008
Crockett High School held its open house on Monday, Oct. 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with newly appointed high school principal Mark Giles welcoming over 225 students and their parents.
The Crockett Bulldog Band, led by director Conrad Flusche performed the prelude. Justin Williams, Crockett Independent School District's technology director instructed parents on how to monitor their children's grades on the Internet.
There were three 15-minute breakout sessions where parents and students could report to the class of their choice. Some teachers actually presented a mini-lesson for the parents.
High school cheerleaders served as hostesses at the evening event. Hot dogs and other refreshments were served and drawings were held for door prizes.
Morgan Huber, a first year teacher at CHS said, "Open House was a successful and very positive experience. The dialogue between the parents and faculty was a great start."
Jenifer McDaniel, English III teacher said, "I've taught at Crockett High School for 13 years and I've never seen such a huge turnout of parents."
Principal Mark Giles said, "Thanks to all the teachers for their help in organizing the Open House, for being present, and making it happen."
About the large turnout, Giles said, "The atmosphere was incredible. After the conclusion of the open house, parents sat around and socialized…they would not go home!"
If parents of high school students, grades 9-12, would like to receive emails from the school regarding school matters such as weekly/monthly calendars, newsletters and school alerts, send an email to the principal at mgiles@crockettisd.net; on the subject line, type "Parent Club."
