Grapeland celebrates in style

Grapeland celebrated in style during the 64th Annual Peanut Festival that was held Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 15-17.
Festivities included a street dance, parade, fun in the park, entertainment galore and the crowning of the Grapeland Peanut Queen.
The 2009 Peanut Queen Kelsie Weisinger was crowned amid an evening of spectacular events on Saturday, Oct. 17 by 2008 Peanut Queen Rashel Dameron. Darsey’s Furniture sponsored Miss. Weisinger who was also named most photogenic.
Named first runner-up and most talented was Laura Bennett.
Clancey Pennington was named second runner-up and Katherine Walker was awarded Miss congenality.
The Grapeland Noonday Lions Club float took to honors of first place in the parade. The Lions Club sponsored Peanut Queen Candidate Whitney Thorpe.
Second palce in the parade was awarded to Walling’s Pharmacy who sponsored Peanut Queen Candidate Laura Bennett.
Wade Pennington and Sons, sponsor of Peanut Queen Candidate Clancey Pennington, took home third place for their float entry.
