The holiday season in Houston County this year promises to be spectacular as plans are underway for several events.
In Crockett, the Houston County Career Women are hard at work planning the Annual Christmas Parade that will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19. Co-chairs of the event Daphne Session, Brenda Christian, and Sarah Clark announced that the theme for the parade is “Letters From Home.”
For additional information about the parade contact any of the co-chairmen or call Brenda Christian at 545-5386.
In conjunction with the annual parade and Christmas in Crockett events, the Crockett Downtown Beautification Corporation (CDBC) is gearing up for the annual Christmas Business decorating contest.
Registration is not required to participate and all downtown businesses are encouraged to decorate.
All businesses that are decorated will be judged.
The judging will be held Wednesday night Nov. 18 with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners being announced Thursday night Nov. 19 during the Christmas parade.
For additional information about the annual decorating contest call Cathy Minchew at (936) 222-3232 or 544-8003 after 5:30 p.m. for additional information.
The Annual Christmas in Crockett will be held on the square on Saturday, Nov. 21. Booths and vendors will line the streets and those attending will have the opportunity to enjoy great food and fellowship.
Farther north in the county, planning has also begun for the Annual Christmas in Grapeland event that will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Two blocks of Grapeland’s Main Street will be closed for the fun-filled festivities.
Entertainment acts, music, churches, face painting, vendors, food and lots of holiday shopping will be the fare for the day’s events.
To add to the fun of the day, drawings will be held every 30 minutes.
To highlight the event, Santa will make an appearance starting at 11 a.m.
Live Christmas trees from a local farm will be available.
For additional information about Christmas in Grapeland call 687-4710.
