Victory garden installed at Crockett Civic Center
Houston County Courier
Patsy Barney and Suzanne Steed of the Crockett Economic Development Corporation are giving the historical victory garden theme a slight twist at the Crockett Civic Center. “Since budgets are tight and funds are reserved for the absolute necessities of conducting the city and county’s business, it should become an honor to contribute to the community in ways that are possible,” they said. The Crockett Civic Center entrance flower bed has great potential for beautification with the help of local citizens who want to lend a helping hand, according to Barney and Steed. Barney and Steed have prepared the area by cleaning and removing overgrown plants, grass and cigarette butts. Earlier in the season, city employees removed dead hedges and pulled stumps to ready the area. Any small plant that citizens would like to contribute are welcome. Barney and Steed will even do the planting. Anything is appreciated, including herbs, garlic bulbs, as well as small flowering plants. “This would add a unique touch to our community’s gathering place. Let’s have a 2010 Victory Garden. We can do it,” Barney and Steed said. |
