Blood drive scheduled Oct. 29 for ElastoTech employee
Houston County Courier
ElastoTech Southwest is hosting a blood drive through The Blood Center East Texas on Friday, Oct. 29, in honor of ElastoTech employee, Jesus Morano. Morano is now recovering at home after spending nearly two months at the Texas Medical Center in Houston receiving treatment, including blood transfusions, for aplastic anemia, a rare and serious condition that occurs when the body stops producing enough new blood cells. More than 1,000 blood donations are needed every month to meet the need of patients like Morano in East Texas. The blood collected at the drive will help replenish the East Texas community blood supply to ensure that blood is available for those in need. Contact blood drive chairperson Connie LaRue at (936) 545-8550 to schedule a donation. Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. Individuals who are 16 years old, at least 122 pounds, in good general health and have parental consent also may donate. The donation process is simple, taking only about one hour. The Blood Center East Texas will be at ElastoTech Southwest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 29. ElastoTech Southwest is located at 1700 Southwest Loop 304. The Blood Center East Texas is the local community blood center and primary supplier of blood products to eight hospitals and healthcare facilities in the six East Texas counties surrounding Lufkin and Nacogdoches.
