Houston County Courier
By Lynda Jones
Halloween isn’t here yet, but various organizations are already getting ready for the Christmas season in Houston County. The Houston County Career Women are among those busy planning. They will host the annual Christmas parade. “The True Meaning of Christmas” is this year’s parade theme, and it is time for anyone wishing to enter the parade to pick up a registration form and a copy of the regulations. The lighted parade kicks off the annual Christmas in Crockett event promptly at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18 in downtown Crockett. Parade participants will line up at 4:30 p.m. on South Eighth Street in front of the First Baptist Church. Parade entries will be judged in several categories. Accor-ding to the entry form, these categories include Most Representation of Theme, Most Artistic Lighting, Most Representation Religious Theme Entry, Best Musical Marching, Best Non-musical Marching, Best Motorcycle, Four-Wheeler, Bike, Best Vehicle, Best Equestrian and Judges’ Choice. All entries must be lighted, and music and singing should be Christmas songs. For safety reasons, candy or any other item cannot be thrown on the parade route. In accordance with Texas State Law, equine entries must have a Coggins Certificate (negative EIA test) within the past 12 months. Without a Coggins Certificate, the entry cannot participate. Complete copies of regulation information and the entry forms are available at the Houston County Courier (102 South Seventh St.), KIVY, Crockett Area Chamber of Commerce, Sonja Logan All-State Insurance and the Houston County Courthouse (first and Second floors). The registration deadline for parade entries is 10 a.m. on Nov. 18. Completed forms must be turned in to Brenda Christian at Sunrise Health and Herbs to qualify for judging.
