Houston County Courier

Kalin’s Center will host its third annual “Style for Smiles” style show and luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Lovelady Old Gym. Forty-five women, men and children will model fall fashions provided by area businesses. This year’s guest speaker, Jennifer Schuett of Dickinson, will share her story about being a victim of child abuse and her survival. Schuett states, “God gave me my voice back, and I am going to continue to stand up and use it!” No tickets will be sold at the door, and limited seating is available. Tickets may be purchased with a tax deductible donation of $35 at Hearts Desire in Crockett, the Pink Dot in Grapeland, the Mule Barn in Madisonville or the Kalin’s Center. Tables are available for $400. Contact Kalin’s Center at 936-545-9455 for more infor-mation. The program for the day will begin with Meagan Murff performing several different songs as everyone arrives. All will be welcomed by the Houston County Judge Lonnie Hunt. Family and friends will have the chance for a keepsake photo which is being provided by the Crockett Municipal Judge Mo Amjad for $5 a person, with all proceeds going to the Kalin’s Center. There will be door prizes donated from throughout the community and a surprise drawing during the event. A light gourmet fare, prepared by Gayle Hammons will be served by National Honor Society students from Crockett ISD, Latexo ISD, Lovelady ISD and Groveton ISD. Child care will be provided during the event, by reservation only, at no charge. A meal and snacks are offered for the children. Dana Ellis of Sam Houston State University and students with the Crockett ISD program will be volunteering to entertain the children. The Kalin’s Center provides help for abused and neglected children in both Houston and Trinity Counties. All proceeds remain local for the Kalin’s Center.
