Council votes on sewer grant, K-2
Houston County Courier

In a brief 35-minute special called meeting on Monday, Sept. 20, the Crockett City Council held a public hearing regarding a grant application, voted to apply for a grant and approved an ordinance banning certain smoking materials in Crockett. When given an opportunity, no members of the public spoke for or against the city’s intention to seek federal funding for sewer repairs. With no objections voiced from the public, the City Council voted unanimously to apply for $400,000 in Hurricane Ike Round II Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Supplemental Disaster Recovery Funds for the purpose of sewer system improvements along Town Branch Creek. Crockett City Administrator Ron Duncan said this is an “emergency sewer project” that serves the entire community. He also said it will be late in 2011 before the city sees plans for the project, but that there are 12-inch lines that will hold up until they are replaced with 24-inch lines. In other action, the council voted to ban the use of, possession, sale or delivery of illegal smoking material in the city of Crockett. The target of the ordinance is K-2, a substance said to cause effects similar to marijuana, and is also called K-2 Submit, Genie, Sage, Spice, Fire ’n Ice and other names. The Crockett Police Department reported two locations were found in Crockett that sold the substance, and that both locations had already removed the materials from their shelves
