Kelvin Beazley, 38, of Grapeland is hospitalized and currently in critical condition after being assaulted during the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 27, according to a press release from the Grapeland Police Department. At approximately 3 a.m. Monday, the Grapeland police were dispatched to a fight that occurred at the F&M club located on Lemon St. in Grapeland. According to the press release, “Officers with the Grapeland Police Department and deputies with the Houston County Sheriff’s Department arrived a the club a short time later to find the crowd dispersing and observed a subject lying on the sidewalk in front of the club’s door.” Beazley had been knocked unconscious by one or more persons, according to the Grapeland Police Department. “While officers from both agencies attempted to get statements from persons still on the scene, another officer with the Grapeland Police Department attempted to gather information from Beazley and attend to his injuries,” the press release states. Grapeland EMS transported Beazley to East Texas Medical Center in Crockett, with an officer accompanying Beazley in case he regained consciousness and become able to identify his assailant(s). Due to the severity of Beazley’s injuries, he was later transported to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. “Grapeland Police Depart-ment currently has one suspect in the incident and is gathering statements from other patrons of the club that were alleged to have witnessed the incident. “An arrest or arrests are pending, based on the information being received,” the Grapeland Police Department reports. The Grapeland Police Department “is working with the Houston County District Attorney’s office on possible charges that are being filed. Due to the nature of the incident, no further informa-tion can be released at this time,” the press release states. The press release further states, “The Grapeland Police Department is making every effort to investigate the incident thoroughly and is not jumping to any conclusions as to who or with what had struck Beazley. As with many events, there are numerous rumors being spread as to who struck Kelvin Beazley and as to a weapon that may have been used. “An indictment can only be returned based on victim, witness statements or a possible confession(s), not on hearsay or rumors. A subpoena has been requested for medical records from both hospitals to file the proper charge or charges.” The press release concludes, “Once the investigation is complete, it will be presented to the Houston County Grand Jury. Remember that all suspects are presumed innocent until found guilty at trial.”
