Crockett American Legion Post 134 hosts District 7 Convention

Veterans from the 21 American Legion posts that comprise District 7 convened in Crockett for their fall convention Saturday, Oct. 15. About 140 attended meetings of the American Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and Junior Auxiliary.Crockett Post 134 Commander James Meachen gave the welcome address at the joint session held Saturday morning, and Houston County Service Officer Fred Newtz gave the keynote address.There also was a joint memorial service led by the district chaplains.Post 134 was very honored to host the convention. It was the first time in several years the event has been held in Crockett.Members of the post, including its auxiliary chapter, worked for several weeks preparing for the event, sprucing up the legion hall, laying a new floor and preparing goodie bags for their guests.Those who attended brought supplies for homeless veterans in Houston, which were delivered Monday, Oct. 17.District 7 includes veterans from Anderson Post 640, Athens Post 173, Camilla Post 629, Carlisle Post 136, Coldspring Post 212, Conroe Post 411, Crockett Post 134, Huntsville Post 095, Iola Post 146, Jacksonville Post 868, Livingston Post 312, Lufkin Posts 073 and 113, Madisonville Post 084, Nacogdoches Post 086, New Caney Post 615, Palestine Post 085, Rusk Post 293, The Woodlands Post 305, Trinity Post 314 and Willis Post 618.
