Fight follows allegations of assault on toddler

An alleged assault on a one-year-old led to a fight between the suspect and concerned citizens in Crockett on Monday, Oct. 17. Since that time, four individuals, including the original suspect, have been arrested.There have been conflicting reports about a gun having been displayed or fired during the incident. According to the Crockett Police Department, on Oct. 17 a complainant came by the CPD to report that her boyfriend had assaulted her daughter. CPD began to investigate the complaint.Later that day, some family members and friends of the child went to the suspect’s residence to confront him about the allegations. A fight ensued, according to the CPD report.ETMC EMS was called to the scene and transported the original suspect to the hospital after the altercation.On Wednesday, Oct. 19 three individuals were arrested by CPD and charged with Assault-Class A, a misdemeanor. Those arrested included Eric Demond Chatman, 39; Rafael Septionj Whitting, 31; and Aisha Nechelle Bedford, 32.On Friday, Oct. 21, Ramon Rashard Jones, 22, was arrested by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office and charged with injury to a child, a felony. All four were released from the Houston County Jail on the days of their arrests.Officials continue to investigate the incident and additional charges may be filed.
