According to Crockett Police Department reports, burglaries and vandalism occurred at Crockett Junior High School on Sunday, Aug. 17 and the Crockett Elementary School on Tuesday, Aug. 19

According to sources, Crockett teachers reporting for their first day of staff development on Aug. 18 were greeted at the junior high school with evidence of mischief.

Sources said Bunsen burners had been lit in science labs, money had been taken from desk drawers, and door-knobs were bashed and broken.

Graffiti and other signs of vandalism were also reportedly evident.

In the elementary school incident sources said that lap-top computers were missing, safes were damaged and broken into and doorknobs and doorframes were smashed with some kind of hammer-like tool.

Authorities said the juveniles suspected of the school burglaries likely had keys to the building.

According to Donna Gordon Kaspar, county attorney, her office will file petitions alleging the criminal offense, and the youths could be detained if it's likely they will re-offend or if they have no proper supervision to ensure their court appearance.

In another incident that occurred on Tuesday, July 22, the Pawn Plus pawn shop on Loop 304 east was reportedly burglarized and firearms were taken.

Authorities said the suspects in that case are juveniles as well.
