Houston County Courier -  September 2009

Montana Repertory Theatre presents the Pulitzer Prize-winning play To Kill a Mockingbird at Crockett Civic Center on Friday Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
According to Bryan Lake of Piney Woods Fine Arts Association, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird is unquestionably an American classic.
The story became an Academy Award-winning film and was later adapted for the theatre.
This stage adaptation continues to compel and delight audiences worldwide with its warmth, wit, and wisdom.
The story of To Kill a Mockingbird is simple, yet it speaks deeply and eloquently of human nature and human values.
The story is set in a sleepy Southern town of the 1930s, as Atticus Finch, an attorney and the widowed father of two young children, stands against his fellow townspeople by defending a young black man falsely accused of raping a white woman.
Through every step and with every word, Atticus instills in his children the traditional moral values of honesty, courage, integrity, respect for others, and above all, responsibility for one's actions. Without fanfare or bravado, Atticus Finch achieves the status of a true American hero, telling his son that courage is "when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what."
Lake, executive director of the PWFAA said "We have had calls from several teachers about bringing their English Lit and Theater classes to the production.”
Tickets are half price starting at $9.50 for students 18 and Adult tickets start at $18and available by calling 544-4276.
