Houston County commissioners hold special meeting to pay bills
Houston County Courier
The Houston County Com-missioners Court met for a brief special session Monday morning to approve payment of several bills related to grants which were expiring at the end of August. The Court accepted additional voter registration funding from the state and authorized it to be used for purchase of new computer equipment for the county tax office. Tax Assessor-Collector Dan-ette Millican told the court that this was additional money the state was offering which had to be used by Aug. 31. The purchase of a new computer, monitor and scanner totaling $3,048.61 was approved. Angela Cross, juvenile probation department super-visor, told the court she also had about $3,200 in additional state funds which could be used to purchase equipment for the juvenile probation department, but it also had to be used by August 31. County auditor Melissa Mosley told the commissioners that the simplest way to handle the juvenile probation department's request was to purchase the equipment on a county credit card, but all credit cards have a maximum limit of $2,500. The commissioners author-ized those purchases to be made by credit card, and amended the county’s credit card policy to increase the limit on certain cards from $2,500 to $5,000.
