According to investigators, a 2008 Volkswagen Pissat driven by Brandon Howard, 25, of Houston was driving south when he attempted to pass in a no-passing zone in a curve. The Pissat struck a northbound 1995 Ford Crown Victoria (shown at left) driven by Dounglas Delroe, 52, of Huntsville. Doris Johnson, a passenger in the Pissat, was pronounced dead at the scene. Howard was taken to the East Texas Medical Center-Trinity while Delroe and a passenger in his car, Jessica Bryan, 19, of Nacogdoches were both taken by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Bryan was listed in critical condition and Delroe was said to be in fair condition.
