Leos meet challenges of ROPES course
Houston County Courier
The Piney Woods Leo Club travelled to the Lakeview Methodist Conference Center on Saturday, Sept. 11, to participate in the Challenge Course. This opportunity was made possible through the hard work of the Leos during the annual Crockett Lions Club PRCA Rodeo in May. They completed the three-hour Team Challenge Course (the low portion of the course) in the morning. These activities ranged from ground level to about three feet with a focus on team building, communication and listening skills, cooperation, persever-ance and trust. Leo president Michaela Gardner said, “I learned a lot about teamwork and how to work well with others. I also learned a lot about the other Leo members.” They participated in the three-hour ROPES Challenge course (the high portion of the course) in the afternoon. This program offers individuals the opportunity to push themselves beyond their comfort level in a supportive group setting. The 11 Leos who took the challenge course all agreed that they would like to go back next year. The Leo’s webmaster, Tim-othy LeBlanc, said, “I had a great time. I faced my fear of heights and learned good skills.” For more information on the Leo club contact the club’s advisor, Ellen Brooks, at (936)-545-0348 or feel free to attend any of the Leo’s meetings which are held on the first and third Sundays of every month from 4-5 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 3.
