PWFAA bringing Old World music in October
Houston County Courier
Piney Woods Fine Arts Association is bringing a taste of the old world to Crockett in October. The first event is the Piney Woods Polka Fest! with Brave Combo on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Houston County Airport. The second event is the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Luke’s Baptist Church in Crockett Get a taste of old Bavaria during the Polka Fest! Bring a group of friends and sit at one of PWFAA’s tables while enjoying German food and drink, then polka dancing with Grammy-winning Brave Combo performing their brand of vibrant, upbeat music! Trying to describe Brave Combo’s music requires a pretty extensive vocabulary – at least when it comes to musical styles. For the past three decades the Denton-based quintet has perfected a world music mix that includes salsa, meringue, rock, cumbia, conjunto, polka, zydeco, classical, cha cha, the blues and more. They are America’s premier dance band and a rollicking, rocking, rhythmic global journey - offering what one critic recently wrote, “Even if you come for the party, you’ll leave with something of a musical education.” German food and drink will be available for purchase. This event is sponsored locally by Renaissance Surgery Center of Crockett and funded in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts. General admission tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at-the-door and can be purchased on-line at pwfaa.org, at the PWFAA office in downtown Crockett or at the door on the day of the show.
