Prescribed burn planned at state school forest area
Houston County Courier
The Texas A&M Forest Service, with assistance from the Crockett Fire Department, will conduct a controlled burn of the 23 acres of forest behind the TYC Crockett State School (CSS) facility. The date of the prescribed burn is not set at this time. That will depend on when the wind and other conditions are within the desired parameters. The desired conditions will keep the smoke off of Loop 304 and blow the smoke away from town. The purpose of this burn is the reduction of wildfire fuels to lower the threat of a wildfire on the CSS property. The underbrush in this forest was mechanically mulched three years ago, and this prescribed burn is a continuation in the effort to protest the CSS site and surrounding homes and businesses. |
