City council holds 'healthy discussion'

After Crockett Precinct 1 Councilman Chris Gunnels made two requests for an executive session to review the job performance of Crockett City Administrator Ron Duncan, the item made the agenda during the Monday, March 18 council meeting. The council met with Duncan and City Attorney Bill Pemberton for approximately one hour in executive session. When the council reconvened into open session, no comments were made regarding the executive session, other than to thank the public for its patience. After the meeting, Mayor Wayne Mask said, "It was a healthy discussion among all the city council members." He explained no other comments could be made about the executive session due to the confidential nature of personnel issues. In other business, the council unanimously approved the city secretary's certification of unopposed candidates in Precinct 2 (Robert Meadows), Precinct 4 (Muriel Williams) and Mayor (Mask). The council then unanimously voted to cancel the May 11 election for those positions. The city will have an election on May 11 to decide the Precinct 1 seat currently held by Gunnels. He is opposed by a former councilman, David Williamson. The city council additionally voted to close Brazos St. from the former Boys and Girls Club Building to 5th St. Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 pm. for opening day ceremonies of the Crockett Merchants Little League.
