Jill Thompson of La Pryor ISD will join Kennard ISD Monday, March 25, as the new high school principal, just one month after Jason Crow left the position. The Kennard ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to hire Thompson during a specially called meeting Tuesday, March 12. Thompson has spent the last nine years as an assistant principal at La Pryor High School, about six hours southwest of Houston County. She has more than 25 years of experience in education, Superintendent David Baxter said. Since the vacancy was created late in the school year, KISD was prepared to the complete the school year without a principal, Baxter said. However, there were several qualified applicants. "We actually had quite a number of who I thought were talented applicants," he said. "We were very pleased with the experience level, based on resumes and interviews, and the dedication and talent of the applicants. We were not in a situation where we needed to settle for somebody. We were really able to shop." Thompson currently is working on coordinating her relocation and finding somewhere to live, Baxter said, but she has already started buying purple clothes to represent her new school. "She is extremely excited," he said. "She'll have to hit the ground running a full sprint." Crow left in February to take a position in Corsicana as the Corsicana High School associate principal.
