Free classes to focus on 'Strengthening Families'

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Houston County is offering a 5-week parenting skills-based program called "Strengthening Families" that focuses on improving parenting practices and child behavior. Parents of young children will benefit from the knowledge gained on developmentally appropriate expectations for behavior, while parents of older, school-age youth and teens can benefit from the techniques shared to increase communication and learn to implement limits for behavior. Key topics covered in the workshop series include: Developmental Expectations and Stress Management; Setting Goals, Objectives and Rewards; Dealing with High-Risk Children; Tips on Communication, Problem-solving and Giving Directions, as well as Effective Limit Setting and Maintaining Good Behavior. The classes will be held at the Houston County Extension Office on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Aug. 20 and ending Tuesday, Sept. 17.
