Austonio Volunteer Fire Department named as grant recipient
Houston County Courier - November 2007

The Austonio Volunteer Fire Department has been named to receive a $75,977 federal grant to aid in the acquisition of a new vehicle according to information received from Senator John Cornyn and Representative Joe Barton.

The award is made available through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters program.

“The Austonio Volunteer Fire Department is on hand to protect the community in the face of disaster, and the Assistance to Firefighters grant will help them carry out this important task,” Barton said.

“I am pleased to announce they have received this funding, which will go toward the purchase of a new vehicle, and I want to thank each and every member of the Austonio Volunteer Fire Department for their service," Barton added.

"This funding will help make sure first responder at the Austonio Volunteer Fire Department have the resources necessary to keep the surrounding community safe," Cornyn said.

"We have a responsibility to support those working on the front lines every day to protect families, homes and property," he added.

The goal of the Assistance to Firefighters grant program is to strengthen the nation’s overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and fire-related hazards.

Vehicle acquisition grants such as the one awarded the Austonio Volunteer Fire Department can be used to obtain pumper trucks, brush trucks rescue vehicles, and ambulances, among other vehicles.
