Community volunteers Brett McLeod and Kim Spellman recently turned some of their attention to the needs of abused and neglected children in Houston County. The two completed the Fall 2013 CASA (Court- Appointed Special Advocates) of the Pines training. The two volunteers were eager to complete training in order to be assigned a case in which they each could advocate for a child in foster care. "Both Kim and Brett have experience volunteering within Houston County and look forward to continuing to make a difference in their community," Advocate Specialist Jill Dunaway said this week. CASA of the Pines plans to announce another training class in Houston County in this spring, Dunaway, is able to train individuals one-on-one in order to meet the varying schedules of potential volunteers. "The year 2013 has been amazing for CASA of the Pines with many volunteers being sworn in and able to serve the children in foster care within Polk, Houston and Angelina Counties," Dunaway said.
