Councilman charged with DWI

Crockett City Precinct 2 Councilman Darius Kitchen was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on Friday, Oct. 12.
According to reports, the 34-year-old Kitchen was observed by law enforcement driving a 2002 Dodge pickup through the parking lot of KB XPress and when pulling into a parking space ran over a curb.
Reports indicate that when Texas Department of Public Safety Senior Corporal Bobby Bowlin investigated Kitchen appeared to be intoxicated.
Further investigation led to Kitchen's arrest at 9:50 p.m. for driving while intoxicated.
Kitchen was transported to the Houston County Sheriff's Office Jail and booked on charges of driving while intoxicated, second offense, open container.
The following day Kitchen was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Kathy Bush and bond was set at $3,000, with conditions.
The conditions of the bond included that within a time frame of no later than 30-days from his release, and at his expense, an ignition interlock system would be installed on his vehicle.
Kitchen was released on bond on Saturday, Oct. 13.
According to city records, Kitchen was re-elected in May to the Precinct 2 council position he currently holds.
He also served on council 2001-2003.
This is Kitchen's second arrest on driving while intoxicated. His first arrest occurred in Leon County in January 2003.
