Visitors Center features model train exhibit
Houston County Courier - March 2008
By Crystal Rhone, Reporter

An operational N-scale model train exhibit is now part of the many collections on display at the Houston County Visitors Center/Museum.
HCVCM President Alton Moore said a few weeks ago Bush Museum Supervising Archivist Dr. Robert Holzweiss, asked if the group would be interested in the N-scale model train exhibit they had seen during the Union Pacific Exhibit.
The exhibit had run on display at the Bush Museum for about a year. It was then donated to The Children's Museum in Bryan.
For various reasons the Children's Museum made the decision to return it to the Bush Museum.
The original builder Charles Gilbert, his associate designer and Dr. Holzweiss agreed to meet HCVCM representatives at the Children's Museum to help disassemble the exhibit.
Also helping with the disassemble and loading were Cecil and Fran Miles, of Weches, Jim Renfro, of Grapeland and Maxine Moore, of Grapeland.
Miles furnished an enclosed 28-foot trailer for transportation of the exhibit from Bryan to Crockett.
Wade and Gail Thomas volunteered to help unload the exhibit at the museum and Napoleon Ward and his crew moved some of the display items from the Bush Museum to make room for the exhibit to be installed.
Anyone interested in making a commitment to volunteer at the museum is encouraged to call 544-6431.
